  • 1.  CMA Designation & Membership

    Posted 13 days ago

    Hi,

I've recently cleared CMA exams and received my CMA badge. The certificate is awaited. I understand there are a lot of advantages to continue to have an active membership such as opportunities for professional networking and trainings, however I have a few questions:

    1. Is it against the rules to use the CMA designation professionally (e.g. in my resume/ on LinkedIn/ professional forums etc.) if I don't continue to have a paid active membership?
    2. If I do not renew, does my CMA designation lapse?
    3. If it lapses, what are the consequences of using a lapsed CMA designation?
    4. Do I have to appear for the exams again in future and/or collect the required CPE credits, if I want to renew the membership by paying later (say after another 1-2 years)?

I'm asking because the membership is quite expensive and it is not reimbursed by my organization (unlike CPA/CFA membership fees), as the qualification & its value are not yet recognized by them. Request your advise.

    Hello,

    When a member becomes certified, they are required to do the following to remain in good standing. This information can be found here, https://www.imanet.org/en/IMA-Certifications/CMA-Certification/Maintain" href="https://www.imanet.org/en/IMA-Certifications/CMA-Certification/Maintain" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" class="fui-Link ___1rxvrpe f2hkw1w f3rmtva f1ewtqcl fyind8e f1k6fduh f1w7gpdv fk6fouc fjoy568 figsok6 f1hu3pq6 f11qmguv f19f4twv f1tyq0we f1g0x7ka fhxju0i f1qch9an f1cnd47f fqv5qza f1vmzxwi f1o700av f13mvf36 f1cmlufx f9n3di6 f1ids18y f1tx3yz7 f1deo86v f1eh06m1 f1iescvh fhgqx19 f1olyrje f1p93eir f1nev41a f1h8hb77 f1lqvz6u f10aw75t fsle3fq f17ae5zn" title="https://www.imanet.org/en/ima-certifications/cma-certification/maintain">https://www.imanet.org/en/IMA-Certifications/CMA-Certification/Maintain.

    •  Pay the CMA Annual Fee – This fee covers your IMA membership and the CMA Maintenance Fee.
    • Complete the annual CPE requirement – CMAs are required to earn 30 CPEs every year. Of the 30, 2 must be in ethics.
    • Abide by IMA's Statement of Ethical Practice – It can be found here.

    Thank you.

    Good Day,
It has been/is my opinion the base problem with CMA recognition is professional interaction ownership. The CPA is given, by law and code, attestation and review rights such as: opinions, reviews, audits, compilations, certifications, etc.

I have suggested for some time that the ICMA develop an analysis, or some such action, to take ownership and administration of, while setting standards for related professional work.. Yes, an Analysis, to differentiate it from designated CPA rights. The analysis could be directed toward: budgets, projections, and internal reporting of customers of Banks and other financial institutions looking for financing. The analysis would provide an added assurance to bank officials as to the validity of loan qualification supporting documents. Recently, legal issues are being scrutinized as to correct asset valuation by loan seekers. The CMA would be designated in the ICMA standards as the professional authorized to develop and approve such an analysis.
