How The Smartphone Era Affected The Phonebook

09-02-2020 06:56 AM

The advent of the smartphone, a brainchild of the internet, changed every facet of the game for humans. The same was also the case with the telephone directory. The telephone book, phone book, white pages, or yellow pages, and blank pages went virtual shortly after the phones went wireless. That meant that no one needed to own a book since they can have all the necessary contacts in their phones. The virtual phone books have their fair share of advantages and disadvantages.

THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE VIRTUAL AND PHYSICAL PHONEBOOKS

Despite their inventions being centuries apart, the original phonebook and the virtual phonebook have many similarities. It's incredible how things change without really changing if you know what I mean. That said, here are some of the most common similarities between the two:

• Both the physical and the virtual phonebooks have blank pages that can be filled later.
• They both have spaces for the name, address, phone number, and other miscellaneous details.
• The names in both instances are listed in alphabetical order. The latter makes it easy for you to find the characters you're looking for much quicker than it would've been otherwise.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE VIRTUAL AND PHYSICAL PHONEBOOKS

Some of the most salient differences between the physical phonebook and the one in your smartphone include the following:

• The original phonebook comes with different colors. For instance, you’ll find the yellow pages, blue pages, and white pages, all having to contain additional contacts. With your phonebook, every contact looks the same. Therefore, it would be on you to find a way to differentiate them.
• It’s easier to carry your smartphone and your virtual contacts everywhere you go. That's precisely what we do. In as much as you can have a phonebook around, it feels absurd doing so. That’s why no one does that in the first place.
• The phonebook has a limit to how many contacts you can have. The latter doesn’t apply with the tangible phonebook as it comes with blank pages that can be filled later. The same applies for when there are more contacts added. They can keep adding more pages as the need keeps rising.

FINAL WORD

Despite not being as popular as it once was, the yellow pages, and blank pages are still used to date. They have some significance left because you can't have all the world contacts in your virtual phonebook. The latter seems to be the case because of the limitations that come with your phone. Your memory can only hold so many contacts. If you want to get more interesting details about phonebook, you may refer to this site.

That said, you need to enjoy the contacts on your smartphone while still acknowledging the old-fashioned phonebook.
