I used Gleim, I think it's pretty good even though i can't compare it to other products because i have never used other products.
It was hard for me at the beginning. Here is how I study for both parts.
1. Study 1 unit a week, sometimes if the unit is really short, i might get 2 units done in one week.
On my commute i listen to the audios and also the videos. This way saves me time. Repeatedly listening to the materials did help me understand and memorize the contents.
I read the chapter at home, each time i finish reading i sub-unit, i answer the questions at the end of the chapter.
Then i do the exercises on Gleim's website.
I would always copy and paste the ones i missed on a Word document for review later.
I focus on MC.
Each week i do some MC on the previous units, because if i don't i notice i would soon forget what i just learned.
2. After studying through all the units, I start to review all the units. I would review unit 1 and make sure i can get 80% of the questions right then move on to unit 2, repeat the cycle, and review unit 1+2 at the same time to strengthen my memory.
3. My round 3 of studying is to tackle my weak spots, whether just a concept or a sub unit. My list of missed questions prove to be very helpful in this step.
4. Practice essay questions. I never spent a lot of time on the essay questions, but it's necessary to do so. If you do well in the previous 3 steps, you should have a good foundation to answer essay questions.
5. Do the mock test to gauge where i am at. I didn't get the passing score at either time of preparing for the exam, but it's actually a good thing, because it made me study hard and become very focused. Knowing where is my weak spots and heavily focusing on them while still maintaining my understanding of the other concepts, memorizing the formulas and how to do certain calculations is the key to success.
6. Both times right before the exam I went to a quiet place to study all day long with a schedule and plan, for part 1 i studied 3 days in a row, for part 2 i studied 2 days in a row (8-10 hours a day), it was very effective for me.
7. Before the exam i made sure i slept well.
8. I scheduled my exam in the morning which is when i am awake and energetic. I tried not to drink too much liquid, because if i have to use the restroom during the exam, my clock is still ticking. Each time before you enter the exam room, they inspect you thoroughly, it takes at least a few min out of my time each time i leave the room and come back. The exam 2 was not very hard to me, but i actually didn't have extra time even though i didn't leave the room at all, so that's how important not to take any restroom break.
All in all, I think anyone who could get through college should have the intelligence to understand the concepts for the CMA exams. Everyone has his weak spots and it's probably hard for anyone who doesn't study for it. With determination and discipline (lots of them) you can do it! Have a clear goal of passing the exam at your first attempt, because studying 10-20 hours a week on top of working full-time and fulfilling other social responsibilities is tough already! You don't want to repeat it!
I did this with the self-study mode, didn't need to ask anybody any questions about how to solve certain problems. If i felt stuck, i just went back later. I didn't get too frustrated each time I made a mistake. Read more, watch the video, exercise, and repeat. If you put in the time, you will see the results!
Best luck to you!
