  • 1.  journal entries - best practices re: numbering logic

    Posted 07-05-2021 10:43 PM
    Hello -
The nonprofit I'm helping uses QuickBooks which allows both alpha as well as numerical for the unique identifier when entering manual journal entries (e.g., 2345, SL4567, AR123, etc.)  Any WoW (words of wisdom) regarding logic the bookkeeper can use in developing the unique identifier?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I too utilize Quickbooks.  I generally use my initials and a number to enter my Journal entries.  When it is a journal requested by our tax processors, I utilize their name and my initials.  Often, as QuickBooks  allows for documents to be scanned, I also add the back up for my JE to the entry.  This allows other colleagues to see the information as well and if anyone has a question, they know who processed the entry.
