Hi Michelle,
Assuming you missed Jan/Feb and that caused the do-both-next-time, this may still be in time to help.
I took both exams within a week of each other. I used a study review course (Surgent) and focused on putting the reps in on the multiple-choice questions. They have an algorithm that predicts success (I imagine most do) and that feedback helped me commit to both. I did sequentially break down my preparation.
I also had passed Part 2 years ago then let that test score lapse, so I had additional experience with the test and testing environment. I was weaker on Part 1 and never felt ready: by this time around, the software review had improved and my other multi-year project was complete so I was able to follow through and finish. Extra work experience didn't hurt, either.
I think the key is knowing your context. Subject matter weakness, test anxiety, timing as regards other events in your life all play in to whether you should space it out.

So, I have been studying for the CMA exam on and off for the past year. I was going to try and sit this period for part 2 but it may not happen. Has anyone done both tests in the same period? If, so how do you prepare? Any tips, tricks, and advice would be greatly appreciated.
