    Good Morning All,
Can anyone advise on various analyst roles?  Im looking to move my career from core accounting to more of an analyst role.  I am currently looking at an opening for a Marketing Analyst.  Is this too far away from the accounting and finance world?  I still want to utilize my CMA certification.  I know that common analyst roles are typically Business Analysts and Financial Analysts.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Kayla,

I can speak from the Financial Analyst's perspective.  I was an analyst prior to taking the CMA exams and I found that the exam material correlated well with my duties as an analyst. I personally enjoy analysis much more than the general accounting function. I have stepped away from month-end type of duties and am now involved in the cost/profit analysis, budgeting and aiding in the decision making that affects the future growth of our organization, if this is pertinent to the path you would like to take I highly recommend taking the jump. You will find yourself accessing your CMA knowledge at great length.

    Thanks,

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for your thoughts.  Im not using my certification the way I would like to...I believe that is partly because the company that I work for is pro-CPA (I am the only CMA on staff).  I have a similar mind-set as you:  analysis is much more intellectually satisfying than the repetitive month-end closing.  I have been trying to move my career more towards the analysis function, but I have found it challenging to move laterally:  I would have to start at the bottom again.

I am happy to hear that your CMA has been valuable to you.  I am a relatively newly certified professional, so this insight is something that I lack.
