MRA between ICAI and IMA is to ensure their mutual recognition, and combined growth. That is the reason for the clause you are talking about.

As per the clause, you are not eligible to make use of MRA. You can be eligible to make use of MRA iff your address provided in IMA membership is outside India and the Pro-metric Centre opt outside India. Though IMA does not care to verify your address provided in, it is ethically a violation.

But I don't see any advantage of complicating yourself with the idea of IMA's CMA and apply MRA for ICAI's CMA.

If you want to practice in India with the scope to work in US, my personal advise is to go for different application, appear exams for both independently and get certified separately as you are living in India.

If you want to practice in India with the scope to work outside India other than US, apply for Indian CMA and obtain the CMA of US through MRA.

IMA's CMA is globally well recognized not just US. IMA's CMA is to Certify Management Accountant and not going to provide any license for auditing in US or in any other country.

In other hand ICAI's CMA much more recognized in India as you will be getting license to audit as well.CMA obtained through MRA will not get you licence to practice.

    Hope this answer your question.

    Hi Rahul,

Why don't you drop a mail to IMA and clarify the same with them.

    Rahul,
You need to take the exams from outside India but i believe you will also need to show your work experiences of 2 years also from outside india to qualify for the MRA between the institutes.
