  • 1.  CMA review - Gleim or Wiley?

    Posted 04-24-2020 02:49 AM
    Hi,

I am a CPA and an auditor for 6 years and have thorough knowledge on accounting and auditing. I just passed my CMA part 2 with Wiley and now that I'm going to take Part 1, I'm thinking which one is better, Gleim or Wiley?

They said that Part 1 is more difficult than Wiley, so I'm wondering if I should switch from Wiley to Gleim as Wiley seems so condensed and simple. Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards,

    Hello Maria,

I have both of Wiley platinum full package & Gleim book (Part-1), I found Wiley is way better in organizing and explaining CMA concepts according to IMA's Learning Outcome Statements, Gleim is more complex, unorganized and less detailed according to LOS, but tougher in MSQs.
Personally, I recommend Wiley full package in order to get the followings:
    1. Video lectures, especially with Dr. Monte for the most important sections B, C, & D (Best ever instructor to nail the toughest concepts)
    2. 11 hours review course which has 2 parts: LOS as summarized from review course, and min-video lectures for hot topics & exam tips
I believe that Wiley's test bank MSQs are very similar to exam questions (Say: 80-90%), adding the exam support package will cover all what you need.

Wish you best of luck, success, safe & healthy condition

    Kind regards

    Hi Maria,

I used Gleim for both parts and cleared both but I would say that Gleim is more complex and does not explain all the concepts very clearly.  I watched CA/CPA/CMA video's online to understand the concepts.
The Essay's in Gleim are much more tougher than what you will face in the test and extremely helpful. The video/audio lectures on Gleim are not great.

For the newly added sections -Internal Controls and Technology/Analytics- reading material beyond Gleim with will help.

All the best in preparing for Part 1.

    Hello!

Thank you for your replies :) Does it mean that Wiley is still better? I am not sure if I am going to avail the videos or only purchase the book alone. Would I need the videos and is it not possible to just study with the book and test bank?

While taking the Part 2, i also realized that Wiley is simplified and that questions are harder than the test banks of Wiley. Hence, I wanna know how is it with Gleim :)

Your insights are helpful. Thanks a lot!

    Kind regards,
    Emjay

    Hi Maria,

To make it more easier, in Part-2 you have seen Wiley's test bank MSQs compared to IMA's support package, so you are able to judge the efficiency of Wiley.
If you are a good learner from text books, so you don't need video lectures, because Wiley's review course has everything explained well, taking in consideration that Part-1 has more weigh of theoretical concepts (Definitions, pros & cons ..etc).
The only concern you need to think about is how you evaluate your knowledge & experience related to the following sections:
    1. Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting
    2. Performance Management
    3. Cost Management
If you are fine with those sections, so you don't need Wiley's video lectures, text book is enough along with test bank & support package.
Gleim test bank is harder even than IMA, his text book is complex, condensed & unorganized according to LOS.

Finally, don't stress yourself thinking about comparison between Wiley & Gliem, since you have already tried one of them & passed ??!!

    Kind regards

    Hi Maria,

I am as well planning to give CMA part 2 first. I am from a non accounting background. DO you think Wiley would be useful for me as well ?

Are the test MCQ and Essays exhaustive and cover similar to what the actual exam covers
