    Posted 03-21-2020 03:35 PM
    Good Afternoon All!

I began studying in January to sit for Part 1 in late May.  I'm halfway through the review course and starting to worry.  I've been out of school for a while so my old study habits are not really possible these days... but, I have many many years experience in Cost Accounting/Manufacturing.  I'm finding that I watch the videos and then work through practice multiple choice questions before I take a quiz.  I'm also making many notes off the videos for flashcards and read through them often.  Between the videos and multiple choice questions, I'm (re)learning the concepts and formulas.  I'm concerned this may not really be the best way to study.

For those that used Gleim and have passed the exam... do you feel that the videos and multiple choice/quiz test banks were helpful?  How closely do they compare to the exam questions?

Thank you for any good advice you can give!

    Hi,

I used Gleim for part - 1 and passed. I did not used the video lectures but yes the questions given in Gleim Question Bank and the Review Course Material are almost 80% similar to those that were asked in the exam.
I never made any notes as this practice failed for me in my first attempt. In my second attempt, I would read the course material once, section by section and will attempt the questions and practiced this for my entire preparations and it worked for me. In my revision, I didn't consult the book again. I only did practice questions from the Question Bank again.

    Good Luck.

    Hello Janee,

Despite of the course provider you are using, I agree with Mr. Mohammad about the review course material (Text book) which has more detailed information connected to IMA requirements for CMA exam than what video lectures have. Am talking here about Learning Outcome Statements published by IMA to cover all the required knowledge to be a CMA.
I recommend you to have a look on this LOS list and make sure that you have covered every concept mentioned there. In addition to practicing as much as possible of Gleim MSQs test bank and IMA's full support package.

My experience with Wiley showed that many MSQs have been made according to a small phrases which are mentioned in study material overview, but not explained in video lectures.
In addition to that, the time allocated to each section unit is greater than both of video & test assessment together, which means they have added extra time for text material review in order to cover the whole unit. Same as Wiley, no course provider is willing to cover every CMA concept in short limited video lectures

I have attached IMA's LOS for your kind reference.

Wish you best of luck & success

I used Gleim Premium Package and passed Part 1 first try last year, hoping for the same results this coming April score results for Part 2.

Like you I had been out of school for a while and working full time with a family.  I studied for 4.5 months, 2 hours a day and 4/5 on weekends.  My approach was similar to yours except I relied more on reading the Chapters or Units vs the videos, took summary notes and wrote formulas on a second page (this will come in handy your last few days before exam day) via cloud so I can access anywhere at anytime,  worked on MCQs in the Gleim book or Did 20 questions from the Self Studies before tackling the Quizzes.  I treated the Quizzes and Essays per Unit as my Test.  I didn't move on a study unit unless I was averaging at least 80%.  I think Gleim adaptive quiz won't recommend moving on unless you achieve a 75 or above on a section within a study unit.

Also, if there was some topics I didn't feel Gleim explained well, I used YouTube.  Look up Edspira.  If he covered a topic in Gleims study unit...he explains it very well.

At the end of the day I did about 2k MCQ (including practice exam) and averaged a 82% for Part 1.

    Good luck.

Forgot to mention I felt Gleims questions were harder than the actual exam.  What I love about Gleim is that it over prepares you and that is a good thing!
