    Hi All,

I will be writing CMA part 1 in February. Wanted to check if we have to get approval from IMA for using scratch paper. Will this be given at the exam center with or without approval
I guess we can take normal calculators

    Looking forward to hear ..

    Thanks,
    Roopa

    Hi Roopa,

As confirmed with my local prometric center, they will provide a set of scratch paper (As much as you request) with pencil, and they have a spare calculator in case you forgot yours.

Wish you all the best and success.

    Regards

Prometric will provide you a scratch paper and pencils. You can even choose among available paper color. They will give you one scratch paper, once you need additional piece during the exam, you can raise your hand and they will come up to you and provide you another one. Better bring your own calculator. All the best for your exam!

I just took the test Monday.  They will give you one sheet at a time.  I did not know this going in.  So if you want to circle back to anything on your scratch paper make sure you do it before asking for more paper.  I wasted valuable time on this because they had to explain the policy to me while I was testing - it really threw my strategy off.  I have arthritic hands and cannot write very small - so this was a problem for me.

Thank you.  This is good to know.  I listened to a YouTube video on CMA test taking tips, and one advice was to number your scratch paper with the problem # in case you want to go back to it, you can find it easier.  I tend to write large especially under pressing time so this is a bit of a blow to my test taking strategy.  I thought I could end up with like 10 sheets!  So, one at a time is the deal?  Wow.... Thank you!!

Prometric will give you a 11x17 sheet, folded like a booklet.  The front of it has a title and instructions on requesting more scratch paper.  What I ended up doing, but not right away, was unfolding the paper and using the back side, or rather the side with no printing, so I was basically working on a 11x17 blank sheet of paper - which for me was better than writing an a 8.5x11 sheet, or rather each "page" of the scratch paper booklet.

Thank you so much for the advice, Tom.  Every bit helps.
(Knowing me, who knows how long before I would have thought to unfold it... and I need lots of space.)

    I hope you did well!

The center where I took Part 1 test gave me two sheets of scratch paper (8.5" x 11") which I folded like a booklet, and two brand new sharp pencils. They told me that if I needed more scratch paper they would have to take the used ones before giving me more, and if I needed pencils I would have to turn in the ones they gave me. So I don't know if the test centers have differing information or what? But that said, it's a good idea to ask all the questions you think you'll have before you start the test so you don't lose time during the test if you need more supplies.
