  • 1.  carrying value vs book value

    How is carrying value of PPE different from book value of PPE?

    Investopedia says they are same terms used interchangeably. However, hock says we deduct depreciation from carrying value to arrive at book value of the asset. TIA.

    I believe they are the same.

    Asset Purchase Price/delivery/installation
    - Accumulated Depreciation
    Carrying/Book Value

    Book value = carrying value
    Net book value = book value - accumulated depreciation
    Same
    Net carrying value = carrying value - accumulated depreciation
    You should understand it to match it with the provided numbers in solving the questions
