Hey Daniel,
- Yes, both the multiple choice and essay components are done on the computer.
- For the essay question, you'll read through a scenario that's usually a few paragraphs of information along with some financial information. Within each essay scenario, there are 4-6 questions. For some of the questions, you're asked to perform calculations (show your work, because you can get partial points). For the other questions, you'll write a narrative response that's intended to show how well you know particular topics.
- You're allowed a financial calculator (not a graphing calc) and the testing center will provide you with scratch paper.
Good luck on your upcoming exams!

Subject: CMA Exam - Essay Questions
Hello,
I have a few questions regarding the format of the CMA exams:
- Are all parts of the test (including essays) done on a computer?
- In what format are the essay questions presented? Will I be asked to provide specific pieces of information, or will I simply be given a scenario and required to determine what information is relevant to present?
- Assuming a graphing calculator and scratch paper are allowed? Anything else?
I have been studying through an online test prep website for the past 5 months and will be sitting for both parts at the end of October.
Thanks,
Daniel
