Here it is, December 6th.  When I took the exam on October 29th waiting the 6 weeks seemed like it would be a lifetime.  I guess one of the benefits of taking the exam at that time is the holiday's that dominate the month of Nov and Dec here in the U.S.  Preparing for Turkey day and Christmas have taken up a lot of time such that I have not focused on the results as I would have otherwise.  But still, once a week, even though I know the results will not yet be posted, I check.  As the time draws nearer, I find that I'm really too nervous to check.  I will come here first and see if anyone has commented on receiving the results, then I will have someone else look at my profile for me :-)  Yes, Yes...I'm chicken!  Or deathly afraid of failure.  If I pass that means I will have achieved something really special and soemthing that will make me so very proud...and....I will be able to move on to the CPA exam, if I did not pass, then it means more study for the CMA instead of the CPA.

I'd say one of the interesting aspects of my weekly visits to this board is seeing the diversity in my fellow cadidates names.  I can only assume the names are, for the most part, insight to where other people might be located.  How exciting.  I live in the US and have never ventured outside of this bubble, though I hope to someday when my kids are on their own.  I'm so curious, what's it like being an accountant in another country....what are the rules like, what's month end close like...is it the same, different......I once heard that in China, bribary is common place and just another cost of doing business...is this true?  or is this rumor run rampat because it makes for good conversation?

Charlene .. what i can tell you about getting CMA in my country (SYRIA) it's like dream coming true.

 

 The wait is terrible!  The whole finance team is going out for a holiday luncheon today and I was really really hoping to have some good news to share....but doesn't look like the results will be posted today. I'll look at the bright side, if I didn't pass, I won't have to share bad news with everyone! 

My first essay question seemed fairly easy -- which is always scary, right?  Things seem easy and next thing you know you screwed it up!  It did take some time to answer, one hour for 2 questions with 5 subquestions each is not enough, and I'm fairly certain I ran out of time and missed the very last subquestion to the 2nd question.

I think one of the greatest attributes of a CMA is the fact that it's pretty much a world wide designation, unlike the CPA.  To think that you (Mohamad) and I can live so very far apart in completely different cultures but share an accounting designation -- to me that is so very cool!  I hope your dream comes true, Mohamad, as I'm sure it will!

 

You are completely right Charlene .. when all cultures all over the world study, do exams, wait for results, sharing one goal .. it's kind of cool .

The countdown begins from today , any time from today i think result wll be declared,  Yup the wait is killing , i am too eagerly waiting for my result, if i passed i can plan to move to another job and of course CPA is on the cards

 

With regard to essay , its was  easy for me ,but was running short of time , too many things ask in too short time , was not able to complete as per my satisfaction had to hurry.

 

Charlene, i am from India, working in UAE , in UAE there is no tax law , so it easier here to be an accountant . CMA is hugely popular here and helps a lot specially in the area of mgt accounting .

 No tax law!!!  How flippin' cool is that!  Our tax law is HUGE, like in volumes.  I decided in college that tax wouldn't be my thing.  In terms of corporate accounting, public company's are regulated by something we call SOX (sarbanes oxley).  It's intention was to reduce corporate fraud, which of course it doesn't really do.  It was implemented as a knee jerk reaction to the Enron and other corporate fraud feasco's a few years back.  CPA is still king here but I think it's more because of it's "stature" than it's applicability to corporate accounting; I've been studying for both and I've found the CMA to be much more insightful in terms of the knowledge base required not only for accounting but areas like treasury and capital.

I'm checking my result every 5 minutes since maged post here ... i may not sleep tonight .

 I am surprised that Maged got his result.  It's a bit early for the results to be released.  I am expecting early next week judging by how they released results for Part 1.  I took part 1 in June and results were posted on Aug 12th for me.  So expecting around Dec 12th this time.  Maged can you please confirm that you got your result today?

I dont believe it either, but according to my study background (University ) which was in another language (not English ) I am very happy, you can not immagine preparing for a professional exams holding a ''Dictionary'', it's for sure a hard job.

To all of you guys who didn’t - like me,  Part 1 Oct 31^st  scored  350.Talking about tough luck!-  my advice is,  the  sooner we appear for the next time the better while the information is fresh. I mean really we have only to review and strengthen the weak area and above all “KEEP PRACTICEING”. That what needs to be done now, but if you wait for another six month it will be almost like starting all over again and that something I don’t want to do.

 

 Inshallah I am planning to retake Part 1 by late January 2012 and hopefully I will be able to set for Part 2, as scheduled, by May 2012

today is a vacation on US isn't it ?

 uuuuugggghhhhh....I understand that the essay's have to be manually graded but there has got to be a bewtter way, a more efficient and less time consuming way of doing this!  I think as a society we are not accustomed to waiting 6 weeks for anything anymore!  I just went to check the results, it took me a good 15 min just to gather up the courage to click on "transcript information", I could feel my heart race, almost felt like you could see my heart beating.  I could feel tears well up in fear of failure, trying to convince myself that it would be okay if I did not pass, i would simply take the test again in January.....and so I finally take my hand off my eyes to look and see......NO FLIPPIN RESULT!!!!!  *sigh*  I have a great suggestion:  IMA should give us an EXACT date of when the grades will be released (sometime after 6 weeks from the end of the month...blah....blah....blah is not exact).  In this way you will avoid placing undue stress on the candidates.  So......until tomorrow when I begin the process all over again......good luck everyone!

I got the same situation which you have described.  During my office hours after every few minutes I keep my hand on my heart and check the result for my level II exams.   I am also doing CPA and cannot concentrate on my studies.

 I got an email response from the IMA stating that my score would be in my profile on either 12/15 or 12/16.  Unfortunately, that is longer than the 6 weeks promised, however now I know what to expect.

Very upset. Could manage only 300 in part-2…………exactly the same mark like the previous time.

The first attempt was with inadequate preparation and attended the exam for the sake of it as the money was paid and the date couldn’t be deferred to the next window.

The last attempt was with decent preparation but as it happens in life sometime, fell sick for 3/4 days prior to the exam on 26 Oct.  Called up IMA on 25^th and left an urgent call back message requesting them to reschedule the exam to 30/31 Oct.  The IMA gentleman was very prompt and efficient and called me at 2 am my time only to tell that the date couldn’t be deferred as the procedurally permitted time for any change has already expired.  In the process, the gentleman unwittingly spoiled my sleep/mood for the next few hours (it was 2 am in Dubai when he called up).

Everything went against me during the exam.  Health was not okay………………exam form was difficult than the previous one…………..essays seemed to be some new inventions I was not prepared for………………all in all a bad day and it showed in the exam result.

I am not giving up…….taking it as an opportunity to build on the knowledge.  By the way I hold a full time job and most importantly, I am not an accountant by profession.  I AM NOT GIVING UP.  MY mission is on.  Anybody could chip in to help me with my knowledge building in any way and who are preferably based in Dubai may kindly call me on +056 603 2975.

For those who were blunt and told me a score of 310 is pretty low, I appreciate that. I heard opposite opinions about my grade as well. Who knows how good/bad my grade is. Anyways, thanks for sharing. 

For those who had the same experience ( failure on the first attempt), i know how frustrating it feels. Never give up and hopefully all of us will pass on our next attempt.

I am an international candidate. My background is a bachelor's degree in finance from the states. I have three years of work experience in auditing in KPMG. CMA part 1 exam was my very first attempt in any of the certificates. I appeared in October 23, 2011 and i got a score of 310. I have all IMA, GLIEM, HOCK materials. I studied for 4 months  with a break of 10 days in the middle. I focused on GLIEM and used full online tests from IMA and used some videos from HOCK. I am planning to study again and review to retake it end of February. I have approx. 8 weeks.

Please don't lose heart....these exams are not easy and so much depends on what is going on that particular day and time....disappointment is natural and let it run it's course....but don't despair. Try again and one thing that I can say is not to set your exam date, till you are absolutely ready for the exam. Lot of times we set the date first and then start preparing and I myself have been guilty of that, but just to spare yourself the disappointment, not to mention the expense, of a failed attempt, study and prepare first till you have reached a level of preparation that you are comfortable with, then set the date.

You have such a strong background and experience....girl, you will do it....don't lose heart. You might want to focus on your test-taking skills...I have a friend who is very smart but does not perform well under time pressure and in a test environment.

 I have finshed the two parts . I advice you that you solve exams from Gleim CD to prepare yourself for the exam . also for the essay quistios i solve all the quistion from Gleim and IMA book in the notepad because it is similar to the winow of the exam . also you should know that you concenterate in solving quistions ( Gleim and IMA retired quistion from part 2 and part 3 old system )

First of all I thank almighty god .I passed cma part 1 with a score of 360, this was my first attempt & I was sure that my results will be fail but unfortunately I passed ;). in my case ,during examination time management was a big hurdle I had almost 15 questions pending on last three minutes of my exam .honestly i can say i did bluffed all that and confirmed that i attended all the mcq's .on essay types i failed to complete the second question i did 75% of it but failed to complete just because of lack of time.

Now I am preparing for part 2 and I am concentrating more on time management!!!

Hi Surabhi,

I think you could start first with understanding what could have gone wrong in your previous exam. Was it that you didn't have enough time to finish? Or couldn't understand the meanings of what's been asked? Or couldn't decide between, say, two similar answers and you had to guess?
Knowing the above will definitely help you improve for the next attempt.

If you already are using study material from any of the known ones like Gleim, Hock, etc., I recommend you stick with it because I believe it's not the matter of the choice of materials, but more has to do with how you use it. It's better not to simply answer practice questions and feel comfortable. I suggest you do practice questions over and over so many rounds until you become able to explain how to tackle and why wrong answers are wrong so that you can understand the 'concepts' of each questions and won't be surprised at all at the real exam, questions of which usually use different scenarios but the concepts are the same.

If you need further help, you can DM me. I passed Part1 in Jan and Part2 in Oct on the first attempt and still remember how I studied so may help.
